CEHURDES is a non-profit, non-political and non-partisan organization working with a theme "a new millennium for human rights" by a committed group of human rights workers, lawyers, social activists and journalists. It works for the protection and promotion of human rights, support institutionalization of democratic exercise and enhance freedom of expression and press. CEHURDES is registered at the District Administration Office (CDO), Kathmandu and affiliated with the Social Welfare Council (SWC) of Nepal.
CEHURDES was established in December 1999 as an outcome of periodic monitoring of the press freedom and freedom of expression and publication of an annual report "Status of Press Freedom and Freedom of Expression in Nepal" covering government responses towards press and media and incidents and attacks over press, media and media workers and other additional information related to press freedom and free expression. The annual reports in 1998 and 1999 were published in a personal capacity by its General Secretary Shobhakar Budhathoki. CEHURDES is publishing this report in an institutional capacity since 2000. |
